Day 27 end of Mech-week

So Last week was crazy busy. Prepared my birthday, now I'm 23 and ready to go on.
When I look back at things, very much has changed and there are plenty of awesome things still coming up.
Now for this week, At least I've got some Mech sketches done.

Where studies are concerned the following weeks will be dedicated toward my big problems in Anatomy which are mostly drawing legs and feet.
I'll do one-hundred drawings of feet and legs before I go on to studying the next subject I suck at which will probably be something more painterly or texture/material studies like environments.
For painting I have to catch up to my design-school work... I'll show some of them. Maybe already next week.

Have a greate one,

regards

Day 21"The other Sirene" progress and rant

Hey :)

Here the process of the painting.

first the sketch, then basic mood, then slowly indicating light and shade, and then just back and forth adding details and setting the lights.

Now,

why did I think I have made a major breakthrough? Well that is because, I let go of my doubts. I mean I know I'm still not as good as I could be but it is definitively getting there.
Last Friday I was at gamescom. It was amazing, a lot of fun and i got so many new impressions. It is so good to see the aftermath of what you will be creating some day and especially to meet the audience. Well I started the day pretty early at 7am to go there and I left at 7.30pm.
After I came back I could barely move from the howl walking but I was so enthusiastic that I sat down and started sketching, right after I made some black tea and drank two cups.
The energy I suddenly had was a miracle to me, I just wanted to paint and it all worked. I was never before that organised while working on a piece and the story i built behind the concept was a really cool one too, (at least I thought so and still do :).)
At the early stages, especially that night it felt as if I was suddenly one of those super awesome guys who paint those beautiful things. I tried out stuff went back and forth and some of those things felt like things I saw  from Dave or Feng. I suddenly understood, that all this time before, I was in my own way. The improvement with this piece is clear to me and yet when I look at it the best part was the drawing stage where I had most "aha" effects. After the drawing stage I started to make mistakes, which I clearly see now... I know why because its the first time I got so far. Level of detail is a big one fore example.
I'm freaking impatient, that is another great mistake that I make frequently.
I never came this far although I had the skill-set ready, no wonder I mess up the rendering. Well i'm still very happy and thankful for this experience. I have to add that i almost never use reference which will now change knowing this could be another mistake. I have to get more structured. All these daily sketches they might be fun, but they are not getting me that much further. The anatomy has to work of course, but I really have to filter more and stop uploading random stuff.
I'll go back to updating weekly from now on. Next week I'll make the leg- and feet- week. Which means I want to draw one-hundred feet with legs that week or well maybe sixty. after that I shouldn't be afraid of drawing them anymore. I try to handle my biggest problems that way now just tackling them. I can do this stuff, I know it, I just have to do it more seriously.
There is another thing coming up, its design school I got only two weeks vacation left. Lets try to make them count.
So I said I've got much to say, well I doubt there are that many people who give a rats ass about what I'm writing here, right now, so I'll do it just for myself and the few special people who do. Thank you for reading this.

Have a great one

bb regards.

Day 13, The Cybernetic Voyager

Hi Guys,

So As promised yesterday, today i got The new Piece for you.

Cybernetic Voyager

The Deathline had a little interruption last week I earned some money skipping my hometown for 27hrs...
However as you can see i worked none the less. Tomorrow I think I'll do some landscape studies. Maybe I even life-stream them. I have to get better at landscapes and especially at painting futururistic cities for my diploma.
Maybe showing some paintings fits this blog better then random sketches, although I think I'm getting a lot out of em...
Now that I've got my Intuos the working process was a lot more fun somehow and even faster.
It also goes easy on my Hand, so that I can work a long time, before I have to take a break.
Well I guess I haven't got as much to say as during the previous weekly weigh-ins, maybe next week. Until then ;)

Have a great one

regards,
Mitch

Ork Soulharvester unfinished

Hey Guys

Because I'm a man of my Word. Here is some more explanation, why I created this blog and how I intend to  go on.

Lets start by talking about my first Goal.
#1 Was to create an awesome diploma, which I'm proud of and that could also function as my Portfolio.
My design-school does basically teach everything you could come across in the whole design industry. This is not a bad thing but it is tiring for sure.
In this diploma you are supposed to do the the marketing of your product, check if the design is coherent, and if anything else around it fits together too. Well You know, I want to do Illustration and it just comes to short if I would do it like most of the other students of my school. And I wont waste one day rerunning one semester to do the job right...
So i thought about it and came up with a little plan.
Right now I'm at a stage, where I am confident in my skills. I'm still not as good as I could be and therefore I want to do more, but I also know that just doing more wont improve my work the way I would need it to be to do my diploma.
I need a structure of learning. The things I will have to illustrate for my diploma will be about Charakterdrawings/ Portraits, techninical stuff and vehicles, Landcapes(sci-fi) and probably a big Part of storytelling.  My daily drawings are supposed to be angled towards those things to improve them.
I ordered a new Wacom tablet, because my old one is crapping out on me. I hope it really is an improvement to work on an Intuos4 L compared to working on a Bamboo M fun.
Because i got the 4L 150 bucks cheaper it's coming in a week from now.
Well Anyway, going back to the studying, the next 150 Days I want to maintain this hardcore studying method and then slowly shift towards actually sketching out ideas for the diploma. Lets see how this is going to work out.
Well this is it for #1.

#2 was the fittness and health part. For that, i can say that I really managed to do sports every day during the week and  already feel the improvement. Next week i'll increase the intensity of  my exercises. I feel I can push it some more now. :)

Thanks if you read through this Stuff I really appreciate it.

There are several paintings I am working on right now I'll probably have something new to show next sunday until then, this has to suffice.

This is part of a painting I have worked on for months, because I couldn't paint much at that time... u know...
I did not want to upload it unfinished but since I am just beating it do death I'm not gonna finish it and because I've got nothing else to show this week, I just might do it anyway. So here it is, Gumi Oun'drak Soulharvester.

She was just one of these projects, you stick to waaaayyy to long...

Have a greate one.

Regards

Mitch

Day 2

There it is my sketch-page for the day.
The idea is to keep these small updates short, in order to save time. Posts where I'll write some more and rant about bothering stuff, will come at the end of each week. These Post will contain finished artworks if i got around to finish something that week.

Have a Greate one.

regards

Mitch

Introducing Loomic's 800day Deathline Challenge.

Hi there.

This is Mitch or Michael Loos aka Loomic. I study Communication-Design near Cologne Germany.
I aim for a career in the entertainment design industry as an Illustrator,Animator and Concept-artist.
In a distant future I want to produce great content like Films and Games, but first I want to work and get into the industry.

Roughly eight month ago, I started the Crimson daggers Deathline challenge.
My goals were essentially the following:

To paint 48 paintings, to do sports and get super healthy and fit and to go on writing a chapter of my book each month.

But in may last year i got RSI, because of my reckless wish to get better at any cost. It got to the point where anything I held caused sharp pain in my wrist and thumb joints. The Doc put my right arm, form Hand to elbow, in cast and when he removed it, two weeks later, he said there was nothing I could do to improve my condition other than to take breaks and that this condition would never turn back to a state where I could work a lot. Thankfully that was not the case as I would find out a year later.
However there were things that year that had to be done...  My first exhibition, for which I still had to paint 3 or 4 paintings for example. I really fought to get at least these few pieces done during my  summer term vacation
LINK. I tried to do only the really necessary stuff, but the fear of losing the ability to draw permanently was omniscient and really depressed me a lot. Furthermore, because I was so depressed that it was all I would talk about... I didn't want to bother my friends with that so I went solitary with my fears and doubts.
Luckily  2011 was the year, Game of Thrones got popular, so all I did that summer was reading all those books. That was a great adventure. During that time my condition improved greatly but was still there.
Then In November the Deathline started and 3 weeks into that I felt the pain crawling up again, but was ignorant of it. I told myself that if I just did some practices against tendinitis, that  it would work out fine.It did not. I took no breaks, since I had to keep up my schedule, to paint a painting each week, to reach my goal of 48 paintings. That went well for another two weeks and then the RSI was back even worse than before. I had to stop the Deathline. It was so frustrating, I just wanted to be a part of this great project.  Months went by and the condition slowly improved again but I was still so depressed that I couldn't take my stand in the fight against mediocrity. Well there was something important I learned from that.
It was something Daniel Warren said, some time before. He said, that every artist has his own history and career. That everybody should make their own story rather than to try to copy the stories of their idols.
I'm currently attending a design school, did I mention that before?
This school consumed a lot of valuable time and only recently started to work the way I hoped it would from the start, two years ago. Projects and Assignments got more serious and now I'm able to bend them in favor of my goals and career. Everyone who attended design or art school will agree, that you need to do a lot of 'unnecessary' stuff there, if you have a clear idea of how your work will look like in the future.
However, Daniel's speech echoed back to me and although everyone complained about art and design schools I stayed.
This RSI is part of my story and it shaped my path and made me a little wiser.
I thought about all the things I did in my life and I decided that I won't ever give up or doubt myself like that ever again. I never bend or broke on the tasks i was given before, so I would not start doing it now.

You have to chose, who you want to be and act accordingly.

The idea is to keep faith in yourself and keep moving forward. Because any other one who made it, went through similar hardships, they might have been even worse than the once you're facing right now.

I choose to be happy walking my path to glory and success, no matter which hardships await me.

With this attitude I found the right treatment for my form of RSI. I can draw and paint a lot again, if I follow a few rules. And now that I finally can, I'm tackling the Deathline again, but on my own terms, fit to make me the person I want to be.

800 Days, 3 goals,

Two Years and seventy Days, starting today.

This Blog is supposed to be like a Deathline-Diary-Sketchbook, where sometimes I write something and post a page of sketches every day. This might change or evolve according to the progress I'm making with my goals.

Here they come:

1# To Create a stunning diploma, that I can be proud of and that could be sold with good consciousness. (The Work within that diploma is supposed to be my portfolio).

2# To become super healthy and super fit. Which means that during these 800 days I want to do sports almost every day even if it is just 15 minutes of crunches and push-ups(weekends excluded). And to lose 25lbs for good, doing so.

3# To have three affixed goals leaves no room. I will think of another goal that will fit my schedule but for now the first two goals are most important. I don't want to limit myself just yet or overdo it again.

These goals will keep me busy for some time.

If you're interested in the work, I've done previously you can go to my old study blog here.

That's it for now. Just a little sketch for today. It's my brothers bday today, so I had to keep the drawing short...

15 min study with pilot ballpointand Pentel brush-pen

Have a great one.

Mitch
